Saturday night and the fancy new hot spot
in town called Paparazzi was in a spin with the Archidply Fashion show and
party. The invite said 8 pm but as usual the party took off by 9 pm.
"The invitees are all interior designers and
architects," said Rajiv Daga one of the owners of Archidply. "We have invited
around 50 architects and designers from Mumbai and the rest from the City. We
will showcase our 2006 collection of veneers to clients." Rajiv Daga and his
brother Shyam head the Rs 75-crore Archidply empire based in Mysore.
The invitation had a mysterious request to check out the creativity of veneers
displayed in an innovative fashion show. A stage was set up at one end of the
restaurant and models sashayed through the crowd before posing on stage.

Karishma looked tres magnifique in a blonde wig echoing Prasad's line, "Blondes
have the most fun" and looking every inch a bombshell in a daring outfit with
strips of veneer in strategic places. Zoheb with an outsized Afro wig, carried
strips of majestic African timbers. A touch of Africa in the animal print
scarves and long beaded neckware made up his very creative ensemble.
The chocolate collection was brought next with Kavya
Chandrashekar and Vaishali, in different shades of brown mini outfits, encased
in curved strips of chocolate brown veneer. The girls received a long round of
applause.
The next round had Savitha and Priya showing
off the colours of wood grown in Europe. Savitha in a saucy platinum blonde wig
with flashy blue eye shadow came up in a breathtaking floor length black beaded
gown against which the light veneers stood out. Tall and pretty Priya Nayak
looked stunning in a tiny tube top with a low asymmetrical skirt in black with
strips of veneer which Prasad called ‘touchy feely’. Cellphone cameras were
clicking away as she stood on the stage making a stunning picture.
Young, dimpled Diganth came on next in a
yellow wig with a selection of veneers of timbers from the US. He danced
through the crowd and went on stage playing an imaginary guitar with a piece of
veneer wound around him, which earned him applause.
The grand finale had Mustafa and Megha
showcasing a selection of veneers called Sheer Madness, with a variety of
unusual colours. Seems like knee length calf hugging leather boots have made a
comeback as many female models sported them with dare-to-bare minis. Then
everyone took to the floor and uninhibitedly danced to the latest Bollywood
numbers joined by Prasad and his troupe of models. Later, a lavish buffet was
laid out and everyone indulged to their heart’s content.
